Blackberry Storm 2 9520 Puts RIM Out of the Black

Research in Motion Incorporated, makers of the Blackberry mobile phones, has unveiled the Blackberry Storm 2 9520. Based on its name, it is the successor of RIM’s first Touch Screen device. The phone is expected to be exclusively released in the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe through Vodafone and in the United States via Verizon. The new edition of the Storm is expected to top the one million units sold by its predecessor.

The storm’s strengths

Blackberry’s newest offering bring basic enhancement to the initial edition of the Storm. One of which is that RIM has improved the text entry system from SureType to an electronic-based one. Because of which, there will be no moving parts when you’re typing in entries.

The new Blackberry also has expanded memory for it now has 256 MB of flash memory and 2 GB of built-in storage. The new device also has GPS capability, a 3.2 mega-pixel camera and WiFi which reaches bursting speeds of up to 802.11 b/g.

Initial reviews for the newest Storm gives the units are sleeker and more fine-tuned impression. However, it doesn’t show groundbreaking improvements as compared to the previous handsets of the Blackberry. Yet, the new OS was proven to be highly responsive for it dispels the lag issues of the Storm’s initial edition.

More strength of the storm

Though its display has low colour support, the phone has shown crisp and clear images. This feature is most evident in its video playback function as it plays WMV, 3GP, MP4 and H.264 video files. Meanwhile, its Media Player is compatible with AAC, MP3 and WMA audio files.

The phone also has a 3.2 MP camera that works fairly decently. This camera has an LED flash, autofocus and image stabilization. And for your navigational needs, this Smart Phone has built-in GPS. This feature makes this unit a portable SatNav device. Because of which, this allows satellite images to be geotagged with specific location information.

Another key addition to the revitalized Storm is its WiFi connectivity. A lot of the users of the original edition have been craving for this and thus, RIM has incorporated this to its newest offering. Aside from WiFi, this phone also caters to HSDPA Mobile Broadband, EDGE and GPRS data connectivity. Phone-to-phone connection is done by Bluetooth 2.1 which is bundled with a Micro USB device for PC connection.

Its size is just the same with the original version yet the new Storm looks better in terms of its over-all design. In relation to this, the keys that were originally at the bottom of the unit have been injected with the touch screen. Because of this, the new Storm has a better protection scheme against dust, crumbs or lint.

Judging from every improvement that RIM did to the Blackberry Storm 2 9520, it certainly is a worthy successor to the first edition Storm. Should it perform as expected, it would erase the bad reputation caused by the original edition. So what are you waiting for? Pre-order this unit from Vodafone now and expect your unit to be delivered starting on the 26th of October.
